Talk:Engine & Transmission

Working on a 1997 2.5, 158,000 miles. Customer complaint of whistling noise coming from engine. Only happens when engine is @ operating temp. After confirming noise, sounded like a belt pully makng a noise. Removed inspection plate behind seats, removed belt and started engine briefly, no noise. Thought I had it licked until every pully seemed ok. Starting engine, let it run a little time without belt, noise is back. Coming from Crankshaft pully @ seal. When tuning off engine, you can hear heavy "whoooooosh" from intake. Suspecting crankcase breather failure of some kind. Removed the oil separator. This requires both intake manifolds to come out of vehicle (not for the faint @ heart job) The plastic line that runs from oil separator to other cyl head that has the control valve or (pcv) @ top of head on dirvers side. This is a real (biatch) job. The vehicle is run on a 8 mile dirt road every day. The engine compartment was totally covered in mud and dirt, aghhh. I replaced the oil separator, the large plastic line, the valve and the updated line (a little longer) from intake to top of oil separator. Running vehicle so far has not produced any noise. I right this because none of the components realy were not blocked. The control valve is an open valve all the time (@ least when comparing the new to old). I will endevor to keep posting if I find additional problems. As these vehicles get higher miles, things will start to happens.
